Additional Course Information

Frequently, acquisition costs receive more attention and scrutiny than operating costs, despite the fact that operating costs are just as significant over a period of time. As a result, this important element of cost is often misunderstood or worse, overlooked. At the completion of this two-day course, each participant will have a better understanding of how to control and manage the costs associated with a helicopter operation. This knowledge will lead to a more efficient use of the organization's limited financial resources.

At the completion of this two-day course, each participant will have a better understanding of how to control and manage the costs associated with a helicopter operation. This knowledge will lead to a more efficient use of the organization's limited financial resources. Using the operators section of the Guide for the Presentation of Operating Cost Estimates as its basis, attendees will:

  • Have a better understanding of the different categories of operating costs, as well as, the unique attributes of selected categories. Areas included in this portion of the course will be maintenance costs and their often confusing behavior, the various elements of insurance costs, and examining costs and an operator progresses through the life cycle.
  • Have the knowledge to develop or select systems that will convert operating cost data into useful information. Areas included in this section will be the identifying existing systems that provide cost data and eventual management information, understanding the usefulness of simple and more complicated systems, and learning more about the importance of automation.
  • Know how operating cost information can help managers make more informed decisions for their organization. Developing systems that collect operating cost information will help to develop more accurate budgets, identify the top maintenance cost drivers, and learn more about the resources required to maintain a given level of availability.
